The richness of Indian culture is known worldwide, this culture can't be generalized or defined as one, because so many ethnic cultures add up to it. The culture of each ethnic group has its unique life styles and languages. This wide diversity is quite visible from the variety, that we get in the ethnic attires of India. Any set of Indian ethnic wear is sure to impart a classy, sober and elegant look to the wearer's personality. Keeping in mind the new trends and style statements, the Indian ethnic wears have been more improvised and modified to best suit the wearers demands.

Though with the impact of westernization, the glimpses of ethnic attires are not that visible in the current day to day outfit, yet during the time of festivals, marriages and other liked occasions, the likings for Indian wears, become quite prominent. Till date in an Indian society, when it comes to look best, Indian ethnic wear is the first preference for any one. This is because the uniqueness, beauty and elegance of these attires is unmatched with anyone. Indian ethnic wear enhances the femininity of woman making them look more slender and beautiful, and so as the mens wear, which define men masculinity in a more profound way. Further, each type of ethnic attire has its own set of ornaments with a style unique to it, this ads an extra glamor to the entire attire.

Indian is a country of twenty nine states, and from all these different states, a unique set of ethnic wear can be picked up. Each set of ethnic wear has its own charm and uniqueness. For instance, Saree is the most widely known and preferred among all ethnic wear, but the variety that exists in Sarees is amazing. The major regions, where some really beautiful sarees are weaved are like Gujarat, Bengal, Rajasthan, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, Western Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Kerala, Chennai and Tamilnadu. All these sarees are unique from each other, in terms of fabric, print, embroidery, dye etc. Further, every region has its known special and unique way for putting up these sarrees.

In the list of womens wear, the other most widely used dress items are like lehnga-choli-odhani, salwar kameez, kurti, sharara, garara, lancha, mekhla chadar etc. In men ethnic wear, sherwani, kurta pajama, dhoti kammej are the most widely wore wears. These attires are available in different fabrics like like net, shimmer, shimmer georgette,shimmer net, pure silk, raw silk, brocade, jamawarm, crepe, georgette etc. Another, most appealing and eye catching thing in Indian wears, is the handwork done in them. As these attires have their origin among the grass root people of various Indian states, so basically they were hand made only. No doubt with the new technologies and developments in the garment industry, machines have come into scene, yet there are designs and patterns, which are done manually till date, and that adds the real aura to these ethnic wears. For example, the rajasthani work, kashmiri and gujrati embroidery, mirror work etc are unique to Indian soil only. At current date, Indian ethnic wears has got world wide acceptance and admiration. In various major national and international fashion shows, Indian ethnic wears are kept has theme by many renowned designers and such shows have made great success.
