The Ring On Her Finger - The Sparkle In Her Eyes

If you are getting engaged, with the person you were meant to be with, then we have to say two things: Firstly, Congratulations! Secondly, now you need to get an engagement ring, and are completely clueless about where to start then read on. We have all the essential tips on engagement rings.

Engagement Rings are probably the most important piece of jewelry for a woman, after the wedding ring. It is with this ring that she tells the world that she is engaged to be married now. The announcement of a betrothal is often followed by a huge rush to see the ring. Everyone wants to see what you have on your ring finger. How big is it? And does it match your eyes? That is why, choosing an engagement ring is of primary importance. You may do a simple wedding band with your wedding ring. But the engagement ring cannot be ignored. It needs to be eye catching, breath taking and awe inspiring.

Now what type of engagement ring you want can be guided by three main points:

- Type of the metal (silver, gold, platinum)
- The stone used (it's usually diamonds, but some people may prefer something else)
- The setting used to hold the stone.
- These three decided, will give you the ring you always pictured on your engagement finger. Now whether it will be a Gold, Silver or Platinum metal ring for you is dependent on your budget, but the stone that wins hands down is diamond.

Everyone will tutor you about the 4 C's. So here is a list of 4 C's:

Cut: This is the most important thing, as it makes the diamond stand out. That defining sparkle comes from the right cut only. A diamond has 57 to 58 facets planes on its surface, and whilst cutting the stone the craftsman makes sure that they are angled and sized perfectly. Only then will the light reflect and exit the diamond (in other words, the diamond's fire). If the cuts are too deep or if they are too shallow the light angles will falter. The cut of the diamond is also how the shape of the stone is decided. Here are the most popular shapes of diamond:

- Round
- Emerald
- Pear
- Marquise
- Princess
- Oval
- Heart

Color: The most preferred color for a diamond is white. They are defined by scales according to their color, as they do display color tones. Natural diamonds with a distinctive color are extremely rare. (Don't know where Jennifer Lopez got her pink colored diamond engagement ring).

Clarity: The clarity of a diamond is not visible to the naked eye. You need to look at it with the jeweler's magnifying eyeglass to see the 'inclusions'. These affect the passage of light; that is the diamond's fire. So make sure you get a Slightly Included diamond, or if you can afford it the completely flawless ones.

Carat: The carat is how the weight and size of the diamond is measured. A carat is equal to 0.2gm, or 200mgm. A carat is then further divided into 100 smaller units called points. For example, half of a carat is 50 points. The average size of diamonds in an engagement ring is somewhere between one carat and half a carat.

Cost: The cost again depends on what you have chosen. But make sure to buy only certified stones from the jewelers.

Now, that you know the basics, make sure to explore the realm of designer rings that are refreshingly different from traditional designs. Also if you want to get a good deal on engagement designer rings then, make sure to explore online stores, as they offer awesome designs at unbelievable prices.
