Maybe it wasn’t just a coincidence that Rihanna was a ubiquitous presence at Paris Fashion Week last month – showing up at Chanel, Lanvin, Christian Dior, Comme des Garçons, Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy and Stella McCartney, as well as appearing on the cover of Vogue. (Remember? That was the cover everyone was buzzing about until the conversation moved on to Kimye.)
Today, the Council of Fashion Designers of America announced that the pop singer would be given its Fashion Icon Award at the 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards ceremony. The announcement said she would be honored “for her contributions to the fashion industry as well as her philanthropic partnership with the M.A.C. AIDS Fund’s Viva Glam campaign.”
Recent recipients include Lady Gaga (who gave a very funny speech about texting with Anna Wintour) and Johnny Depp (who was a no-show).
The ceremony, to be held on June 2 in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, will be hosted by the film director John Waters.
