Learning to tie a scarf or a shawl is not difficult. Try the techniques listed here then experiment with new methods discovered by your self.
• Triangle Tied Scarf
o This is the traditional style of tying a bandanna, square scarf or a large shawl. A triangle tied scarf is effective as a head scarf or a neck scarf.
o First, lay the scarf on a flat surface then by folding on the bias bring two corners together into a triangle.
o The scarf can then be wrapped around your head or neck or shoulders and tied either loosely or tightly as you wish. This will allow for the point of the triangle to trail behind and lay flat behind your neck. or the point can be folded into the tied ends at the back of the head.
• The Oblong Scarf Tie
o This is a simple roll of the cloth. Take one edge of the cloth and roll it up. You determine how tightly you want the roll.
o A very tight roll will give you a scarf that is round and small in diameter.
o A looser roll will allow you a flatter scarf style
• Bias Folded Scarf
o This technique is a fold not a roll, however it can be done as a roll if you wish; experiment!
o Start from a corner and fold about 1 to 2 inches of the scarf in on its self. Then keep folding until you have a flat long scarf
• The Loop Tie
o Tie a loose knot in one end (about 2 to 4 inches from the end) of your gathered scarf or if you prefer in the oblong or bias folded scarf.
o When you loop the scarf around your neck you then tuck the non knotted end through the knot and pull to the tightness you desire to wear.
• The Square Knot Tie
o This scarf or shawl is tied using a traditional knot, either square knot or a shoe lace knot.
• Loop and Knot
o Simply pull your scarf into a long strand, loop the scarf under your hair bring the ends up and simply tie the material around your hair. One tie works. A full knot is more secure, if you prefer. This works well using a bias folded silk scarf.
